清晨，馮路起床後，頭昏沉沉。昨晚一夜他在床上輾轉反側，不能入眠。他考慮等高雅接手案子後，自己還是送jennifer母女迴美國，別讓她們擔驚受怕。
他穿著睡衣走進餐廳，一臉倦意，坐在餐桌前勉強地和菲傭問候早安，然後有氣無力地用刀叉切著荷包蛋。這時，門鈴響了，他放下刀叉，迴頭看看是誰這麽大早就來敲門。不知為什麽，自從kate走後，他變得很敏感，一聽到門響，就莫名其妙地緊張。菲傭去開了門，保安又送來一份信，朝陽區法院幾個字向馮路預兆黑洞又要降臨，打開一看，果不出所料，上麵寫著‘鑒於被告人馮路涉及中國境內未了的民事訴訟，本法庭接受原告請求限製被告出境。’
馮路眉頭緊鎖，氣得竟把胸前盤子一推，弄得丁當響，隨後使勁地拍著桌子，大罵道：“真他媽的，得寸進尺。好吧，想鬥，就來吧。”
這聲響驚醒了睡夢中的jennifer。她匆匆起來，看個究竟。當她見馮路目光凝滯在窗外，胸部的輪廓劇烈起伏，手指間還夾著份信，趕緊過去問：“what’s up， honey？”（親愛的，怎麽了？））
馮路轉過身來，神情凝重地說：“the bastard appealed to the court for getting me confined in china， only to have gotten judge’s permission。”（那個混蛋要求法庭限製我出境，法官居然接受了。）
“oh，it means you can not leave before the suit is over。 to my knowledge， it’s quitemon。 we’ll have enough time anyway， nothing to worry， honey。”（噢，這就是說你在官司結束之前，不能離開這裏。不過，這種情況司空見慣。我們反正有足夠的時間，不必擔心。）
jennifer泰然處之的樣子讓馮路感到欣慰。他剛才的顧慮實際上也是出於對她們母女的擔心，jennifer的冷靜給了他一個定心丸。
他對jennifer說：“you are right， it’s no big deal。” （你說的對，區區一場官司，何足掛齒。）然後，他又說：“ just let me cope with it on my own， you’d go to the school ， staying peacefully in the lee port。” （就讓我自己來應付這一切，你最好安心地呆在學校，那裏是很好的避風港。）
“it may as well，lest distracting you too much。 is it far from here？”（這樣也好，免得讓你分心。學校離這裏遠嘛？）
“it’s not close， at lease taking half an hour driving at the best of traffic。”（不算近，交通暢通時，也要半個小時的車程。）
“oh，my god， what if it’s in the rush hour？ how about the traffic？”（噢，天啊，那要遇上高峰期怎麽辦？交通便利嗎？）
“you need to change the buses around。 i think you’d better drive。”（你要一波三折不停地倒車，還是開車吧。）
“i am new here， not even knowing where they are， much less driving。 i am nning to live in the school， not having to travel around。”（我初來乍到，又人生地不熟，還是別開車啦。我打算住在學校，省得跑來跑去的。）
“and what about lulu？”（那lulu怎麽辦？）
“just living with me， i could stay her in a kindergarten nearby for learning chinese。 do you think it’s good？”（就讓我們母女相依為命吧，可以把她放在附近的幼兒園學中文，你認為行嗎？）
“it would be just as well。 i’d pick you guys up at the weekend for a family union。”（那倒也不錯，我到周末接你們迴來家庭團聚。）為了她們的安全，馮路隻好接受這樣的安排。
